Awarded to Denny Moulds and Svet Ivanov in 2010

Every year Liverpool Hope University is to make an award to a maximum of four of its graduates who set up outstanding new businesses. 2010 saw the first of these new awards and Denny and Svet were two of the first of its winners.

This award is highly competitive and is judged by a panel of internal Senior and Business Managers as well as Senior Managers in the Business and Third Sectors. The panel was extremely impressed by Denny and Svet‘s business plan, their presentation and detailed outline of their business aspirations. They combined a highly creative and skilful drive with a sound business approach to what is a highly competitive market.

The award provides them with an interest free £10k loan, incubation space at Hope and on-going business support. In addition Hope Business Gateway is happy to act as a key referee in terms of supporting the development of their business.

Liverpool Hope University is keen to support its graduates in starting new businesses and in gaining meaningful employment in the labour market. Denny and Svet were exceptional students and are highly creative web designers and we believe will be successful entrepreneurs of the future. Hope endorses their work in terms of high quality, real value and a product that, we believe, will stand out in the crowd.

Flying Start is an initiative supported by the National Centre for Graduate Entrepreneurship, designed to help students and graduates from North West Higher Education Institutions set themselves up in business. As part of this remit they work with North West Higher Education institutions to stage a range of events and workshops which inspire and inform students and graduates and give them the support structure they need to start their new enterprises.

From Mon 30th November to Wed 2nd December 2009 Liverpool Hope University very successfully hosted its first 3 day Flying Start event at the Conference Centre at Hope Park. The event was attended by 27 participants most of whom were Hope students or graduates. The programme was organised by Flying Start in association with Carol Buckman, Hope Business Gateway Manager and Neil Campbell, a Hope Enterprise Champion. The content of the 3 day event was developed to inspire those attending by including a high level of interaction through networking, practical exercises and mentoring sessions and through thought provoking sessions on marketing, business planning, managing tax, pricing and intellectual property delivered by entrepreneurs and other industry specialists.

On the final day a Business Networking Lunch in the Gateway introduced the participants to representatives from a range of business support organisations such as Business Link, Liverpool Vision, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Merseyside ACME, Pacific Stream, Waves and Train 2000. Later that afternoon participants were given the opportunity to pitch their business ideas to each other. The event was concluded by an inspirational talk by Chris Arnold, the entrepreneur behind the highly successful ‘Camp Leaders’ organisation.

Following the 3 day Flying Start event, participants will continue to be mentored by specialists from the world of business and many will also receive further support through Hope’s Business Gateway.
